Exodus 3:15
“And God said moreover unto Moses: 'Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel: The LORD, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, hath sent me unto you; this is My name for ever, and this is My memorial unto all generations.”[1]
“The LORD” is an honorific title spoken instead of pronouncing the letters יהוה (YHWH), which is what is actually written in Hebrew. “The LORD” is said so as to not pronounce the name of God. The Hebrew letters are individually pronounced like a German saying yod-hey-waw-hey (YHWH). Known as the Tetragrammaton (4 letters), the letters were not to be spoken as a name outside of prayer by the high priests. Thusly, the 4 letters have not been spoken as a name by practicing Jews since the fall of the Second Temple in 70 AD.[2]
The Hebrew alphabet comes from the Aramaic alphabet which derives from Phoenician alphabet, as do the Greek and the Latin alphabets. “Alphabet” comes from the first two letters in Greek: Alpha and Beta (A and B).[3][4]
The Phoenician alphabet was originally pictographs.[5]
Jesus comes from Yeshua (Joshua) and means “YHWH saves” or “YHWH is salvation.”[6]
Assuming the YHWH means behold the hand and the nail, the name of Jesus could mean,
“Behold, the nail in the hand is salvation.”[7]
In the Gospel of John (20:24-27) it is written,
“There was one of the twelve, Thomas, who is also called Didymus, who was not with them when Jesus came. And when the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord, he said to them, Until I have seen the mark of the nails on his hands, until I have put my finger into the mark of the nails, and put my hand into his side, you will never make me believe. So, eight days afterwards, once more the disciples were within, and Thomas was with them; and the doors were locked. Jesus came and stood there in their midst; Peace be upon you, he said. Then he said to Thomas, Let me have thy finger; see, here are my hands. Let me have thy hand; put it into my side. Cease thy doubting, and believe.[8]
Who knows?
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” -Gospel of John 1: 1-5
