Meanwhile, statues in the South of men who seceded from the USA are being torn down.

Something similar happened in Paris in 1871.

After losing the Franco-Prussian War (July 1870-January 1871) protestors and/or rioters in Paris set up the Paris Commune. They did it because the corrupt monarchy was being replaced with a republic and they did not trust it.

According to the Mises Institute,

“The Commune’s leaders sought reprisals against the wealthy with mass looting throughout the city, as well as reprisals against its political enemies such as Tiers, whose house they burned down. A hostile relationship was also established with the Catholic Church, as it accused it of being part of the monarchy’s supposed crimes. More than 200 members of the clergy were arrested and more than 20 churches were shut down. Paris was eventually re-captured by the actual French Army, but upon retreating the Communards set ablaze a great part of the city, causing irreversible damage and completely ruining historic buildings such as the Tuileries Palace. The whole event left between 10 and 20 thousand men dead altogether and a lasting political impact on France.“[3]

Today, protestors and rioters are tearing down statues and setting up communes because they want to replace the injustices in the country.

They are correct in that their rights have been violated, and the people enforcing those violations are the police.

However, if they have no one to show them that the Republic that needs to replace the current laws is the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, then things will just get worse. They’ll just tear down the foundation and leave us with chaos.

Hopefully this act of rebellion does not end as bloodily as either the Paris Commune or the American Civil War.
